The special guest speaker, Aline Umugwaneza, suffered abuse in her family as a little girl in Rwanda. As an adolescent, she lost almost all of her family members in the Rwandan genocide of 1994. Later, she was hunted down and betrayed by the very people that she believed were helping her. God literally rescued her. Through the power of love and forgiveness, she was able to let go of the past and move forward into God’s plan for her life. Many in attendance were deeply touched by this powerful testimony.

Among other highlights at the meeting, Darlene Trefry, a former leader of Women Aglow, mother and grandmother, facilitator at Greater Portland Vineyard’s Marriage Encounter weekend, and recent addition to Morninglight’s leadership team shared her testimony of God’s faithfulness in restoring her soul and calling her back into ministry. Darlene shared that, at the beginning of 2010, she felt trapped in a dry and desperate place and “put on the shelf” as far as ministry was concerned. A woman she hardly knew called and invited her to Morninglight ‘s January 2010 meeting. She accepted but only with great reluctance and apprehension. When Darlene arrived, she recounted “I was touched as the music began and saw my spirit as a “dry and cracked desert place.” The message from Ezekiel 47 spoke of the tiny trickle of water that becomes God’s mighty rushing river that brings refreshing wherever it goes. “The Holy Spirit ministered to me personally…I closed my eyes and surrendered to God whatever He wanted of me.” She explained that as she was leaving a sweet elderly woman identified herself as Marie and asked Darlene if she had enjoyed the meeting. “I told her that I had felt like laundry that had been hung on the line and forgotten, and it had been there so long that the edges were tattered and torn. Marie gave me a hug and told me that she wanted to help me bring in the laundry…I think I cried all the way home. God met me that day in Morninglight, in the deepest places. He knew what I needed and used a simple invitation from a lady I hardly knew. ”

Since her first Morninglight meeting, Darlene says that she has fallen in love with this group of women, especially the African ladies. According to her God has “filled [her] eyes and revived [her] soul.” She finished her testimony by exhorting us all to open our eyes to see other women who are hurting and to reach to them with the love of Jesus. “The time is now!”

We would be remiss not to mention that one of our dear friends and sisters, Immaculee Ntibatingeso, passed from Earth into Heaven just a few hours before the start of Morninglight’s anniversary meeting. While we deeply miss Immaculee, we rejoice that she now sees her Savior face to face. As the old spiritual goes, and as we sang together on November 20th, “soon and very soon, we are going to see the King. Hallelujah, hallelujah, we are going to see the King.”

Kate now lives and serves God in Israel with her husband, Tom Hess, leading the Jerusalem House of Prayer for All Nations. She shared this testimony about the impact of Morninglight in her life:

“I am grateful for my involvement in Morninglight Ministries, from almost the beginning days. God used this ministry in a special way to prepare me for my life-long calling to Jerusalem, Israel to be involved in a lifestyle of prayer and reconciliation between people groups with my husband Tom. My heart remains committed to this precious end-time ministry, raising up women of prayer and reconciliation in Maine and all over the world!”

Over the years, the Lord has used Morninglight to launch many women of all ages into an understanding of their gifts and their God-given destinies. More testimonies can be found here. We welcome your story, and pray that Morninglight may be a blessing to you as well!

Our time of worship, including a Kinyarwanda song about how the promises of God will never fail (“Amasezerano yawe mana ndahinduka!”), centered on the supremacy of knowing God over everything else. These cries culminated in the chorus of “Knowing You”:

Knowing you, Jesus, knowing you

There is no greater thing

You’re my all, you’re the best

You’re my joy, my righteousness

And I love you, Lord

Two strong women of God shared words of exhortation and encouragement: Julie Stevens and Laurence Mukabatsinda. Laurence exhorted us from her life story about the difference between practicing Christian religion and truly loving and following Jesus. Julie encouraged us to renew our minds, get rid of every trace of bitterness and malice, and embrace the relationships God has given us to refine and make us holier and stronger people.
